Airlines plan major smartphone investment

Airlines plan major smartphone investment
Passengers will be able to download content for their flight, including books and films, from airport media kiosks in the near future.

Research by SITA shows that almost one-quarter of airlines (22%) will offer such a service by 2018.
And, by the end of 2018, the majority of airlines (66%) will offer wireless internet and multi-media services on passenger devices, giving passengers greater ability to choose their own in-flight relaxation and entertainment, according to SITA’s Airline IT Trends Survey

Also in its infancy is a ‘virtual concierge’ for passengers, delivering airport shopping to gates and lounges. Around one in five airlines plans to introduce such a service over the next three years, which 82% of airlines will invest in improving personalization, with over 75% of airlines planning major programs to deliver passenger services through smartphones in the next three years.

By 2018, over five times as many airlines (67%) will offer a highly personalized smartphone booking experience compared to today.

While the traditional airport desk will remain the single most used check-in channel through to 2018, mobile devices will overtake web check-in as the number two choice with 24% of passengers using a mobile device compared to 20% checking in on a laptop or desktop.

Automatic check-in is also set to more than double over the next three years. Today 22% of airlines use the system to check in 4% of passengers.

By 2018, 68% of carriers will have automatic check-in on some routes with 10% of passengers expected to use it.

Disney Dream to Add Star Wars Play Area & Sweet Shop

The Disney Magic will Make Dreams Come True
The Disney Magic will Make Dreams Come True

When the Disney Dream emerges from a 20-day drydock in late October, the cruise ship will have new spaces, including a Star Wars play area in the Oceaneer Club and a sweet shop.

Star Wars: Millennium Falcon, a play area open to kids ages 3 to 12, is inspired by Han Solo’s spacecraft from the first three Star Wars films.

Upon entering the area, kids can “pilot the spaceship through hyperspace and trigger light-speed jumps to different locations around the galaxy,” Disney said.

Children also can do Star Wars-themed crafts, games and activities; watch episodes from the Disney XD animated series “Star Wars Rebels” on a large screen; and play video games.

The Disney Dream also will feature a shipboard version of the Jedi Training Academy, a popular activity at Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park in Florida.

In the Disney Infinity Toy Box area, the complete set of Disney Infinity character figures will be on display and available for gameplay. Kids visiting the room will be able to unlock Disney Cruise Line content that they can continue to enjoy when playing Disney Infinity at home.

On a life-sized Disney Infinity Base, children take the place of character figures for a group gaming experience. An interactive floor will light up in response to gameplay on a large screen.

On the pool deck, Vanellope’s Sweets & Treats will resemble the whimsical candy land of the Sugar Rush race car game in the film “Wreck-It Ralph.” The sweet shop’s decor will feature nods to the film, including a race track and checkerboard patterned floor, gas pump-style gumball dispensers, Vanellope’s race car and King Candy’s throne.

Vanellope’s will serve gelato and ice cream and an assortment of candy and novelty treats for purchase.

Also, there will be a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at sea. The salon for kids, located on land in the Magic Kingdom and Downtown Disney, is known for pixie-dust makeovers.

Adults will have their own splash pool on the Dream, called Satellite Falls. It will have benches and a gently falling rain curtain.

The Dream sails three- and four-day cruises to the Bahamas from Port Canaveral, Fla. The ship will make its debut with the new spaces on four-day voyage departing Oct. 26. Call Mitch at Island Cruises & Travel 847-885-7540Disney_Dream_Star_Wars

A chapel and open courtyard gazebo are a few of the charming destination wedding locations at Sandals Montego Bay.

Sandals Montego Bay is truly one of the most unique destination wedding locations in the Caribbean. Named after it’s location in Montego Bay Jamaica, it was the first Sandals Resort to ever be opened … ever! Besides being the pride and joy of Sandals (aren’t all first-born’s?), Sandals Montego Bay is unique in so many ways. The most unique feature of Sandals Montego Bay is that it’s the only resort in the Sandals and Beaches family to have an actual wedding chapelon-resort. It was built like a real chapel too, featuring high, wooden beams, stained glass windows and hand polished, wooden pews, perfect for couples who want a traditional ceremony and a destination reception!

Besides being the closest Sandals Resort to the airport (honeymoon starts in mere minutes) and being set on one of the best private beaches in Jamaica, Sandals Montego Bay has a lot of lovely hidden romantic spots around the resort waiting to be discovered. Which wedding location can you imagine your destination wedding taking place in? Tell us in the comments!

Carnival Cruise Line has launched Carnival Journeys – a new program of longer cruises beginning in the fall.

It is a series of nine- to 15-day cruises throughout the Caribbean, Central America, Hawaii and Mexico featuring new shipboard activities.

A total of 28 sailings will make 40 ports of call, including several less visited destinations including Tobago, Grenada, La Paz, Martinique, Bonaire and Ixtapa.

New activities offered include ‘Authentic Eats’ – with cooking demonstrations by local chefs.

‘Local-tainment’ showcases local dance and music such as calypso, soca and Goombay, while the ‘Academy of Fun’ offers a host of educational workshops in diverse subjects from cooking and arts and crafts to digital photography and social media.

Carnival Journeys cruises also offer the chance for guests to learn more about shipboard life with Q&A sessions with the ship’s captain, cruise director, hotel director and other crew members.

With WeddingMoons’ new “Test-Drive”, couples can now try out their entire destination wedding before they commit.  As if that wasn’t awesome enough, couples can also do a trial-honeymoon to make sure the location is as romantic as imagined.
